Education System in Slovakia
Slovakia’s universities, colleges, medical schools, engineering schools, and law schools are highly respected and well-known in the education and academic communities. Comenius University in Bratislava is the Top University in the country. The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of Slovakia provide many scholarships to international students
Students from different countries can come to Slovakia for short-term courses, research, or for long-term courses. The higher education is comprised of public, state, and private schools of higher education (colleges). Studies are organized within the following study programmes and “stages”:
- Stage 1: Bachelor study programmes (3 to 4 years)
- Stage 2: Master study programmes (1 to 3 years)
- Some programmes include Stage 1 and 2 studies in one single study;
- Stage 3: Doctor study programme (3–4 years)
- Specialization studies in medicine.
University-type schools of higher education provide study programmes at all three academic stages. Non-university-type schools of higher education or professional schools of higher education usually provide stage one studies only.
Foreign applicants who do not meet all the requirements for admission may be required to attend preparatory courses, including Slovak language courses. Courses of Slovak language are also organised by respective universities.

Job Opportunities After Studying in Slovakia
Slovakia’s employment market is relatively small and still, Slovakia offers a lot of interesting jobs for foreigners. All non-EU citizen can work in Slovakia without any special work permit on completing their studies at a Slovak university but must apply for temporary residence permit. It is granted for a maximum period of 2 years, for seasonal work maximum 6 months. It may be extended for maximum 2 years.
Student Visa Requirements for Slovakia
The Slovakia student visa is a temporary residence established to help you study and reside in Slovakia. It is called the Long-term visa type D. Regardless of the level of study you wish to take in Slovakia, you must seek the five years permit, the long-term residence permit or the permit for staying for an unlimited time.
